Rosie's Protector

This piece was painted in the studio from photos I took of my four year old granddaughter, Andrea (on-DRAY-uh), holding her chicken, Rosie. The light on Andrea and her protective pose as she cradled Rosie are what inspired me to paint this. Andrea and her three siblings live in suburban Omaha. Her parents purchased a baby chick for each of the children back in March 2020 and set up a chicken coop in their back yard. The children loved watching their chickens grow, learning to care for them and collecting fresh eggs in their backyard sanctuary! They also  planted a vegetable garden and learned about growing their own food. It was a great experience for them especially during the time of COVID-19 and quarantine.
